My Mum was in a care home with serious stroke damage, dementia and other serious medical problems. She was in constant danger of falling if left alone as she kept on forgetting that she could not walk. She needed a lot of care and almost constant supervision. Despite this her assessment for funding for continuing healthcare was unsuccessful. We contacted Compass for help in appealing the assessment.

They did a long telephone interview to discuss the case and do an initial assessment of the likelihood of success before paying any fees so that we could decide if we wanted to go ahead or not.

The process took a long time because of delays by the NHS commissioning trusts and the transfer of contracts to different trusts twice. It dragged on beyond mum's death. Compass were very good and produced a brilliant appeal which was very thorough; we could not have done this ourselves. The advocate was very friendly and competent.

Once the appeal was successful all we needed to do was claim the refund and we received the full care fees for the period between the assessment and mum's death. This was straight forward, but did take a little time.

The fees were money very well spent.

I would thoroughly recommend Compass to anyone in a similar position and have already recommended them to friends.
