Compass have been brilliant! Totally professional in every aspect. We were kept informed at every stage and felt very involved and got the positive result we always hoped for.

No hidden costs and would say the best value for money we have spent. Wish we had come across Compass years before!

“We have been on a long journey from initial complaint all the way through to national panel. Despite obvious flaws in the assessment process the local CCG steadfastly refused continuing nursing care.

Without the support of Compass we would have probably given up early in the appeals process. Compass were very professional and kept us well briefed throughout and given the level of their expertise in these matters we feel their fees were not unreasonable.

We thank and commend Compass for their support which has led to the refund of almost two years of substantial care fees.”

We had received a recommendation from a friend to use the services of Compass CHC. When my sister and I initially reached out to them Compass were very honest in stating that they did not feel Mum met the requirements. We appreciated that honest response.

However, unfortunately mum deteriorated rapidly over a few months so that she could no longer be cared for at home and we had to move her into a care home. Her deterioration was constant and she very clearly did meet the requirements for funding. However, after a delayed and protracted CHC assessment process mum was refused. We approached Compass again and we felt very strongly that we had a legitimate case and Compass concurred. The staff at Compass did an amazing job of compiling all of the relevant information. They were informative when they needed to be and are always responsive when you ask questions. Our first advocate was extremely well prepared and we were quite shocked when we lost our first appeal.

We took some time to decide whether to proceed to the level of NHS England. During that time Compass staff were available and responsive to our questions. In all of my interactions with them, I found them to be honest, pragmatic and factual. We did decide to take proceed and in October of this year we received notification from NHS England that the initial funding decision had been overturned. We are extremely grateful to Compass. Both the advocates we had were amazing. Well prepared, well versed with the process and calm.

I would highly recommend the services of Compass.

Tanya Wells Brown and Hayley Brown

We want to thank Compass for their continued guidance and support through our difficult journey – without them we would have almost certainly have given up a long time ago. Compass have been so supportive, thorough, polite, and respectful and we would be happy to recommend their services to others.

We were very pleased with the financial settlement following the appeal but equally appreciative of the opportunity to speak with NHS England. We felt truly respected and listened to with kindness and empathy from the panel. For the first time in the whole process, we felt that our mothers pain and distress was actually acknowledged. This was so helpful and has enabled us to feel that we have acted wisely and with justification in making the appeal. This successful outcome has finally enabled us to move on and put unpleasant memories behind us.

We thank Compass once again for their continued guidance and assistance.

Kindest Regards,

Cath Edwards

We would like to thank the team at Compass for their very professional help in gaining CHC funding for our mother.

Gaining funding is not simple, guidelines need to be both met and proven at both the Checklist and DST stage, the latter stage following a rigorous procedure.

The CHC consultant guided us through the process, first determining whether Mother had a case for funding (if Compass believes one does not exist, they will refuse to take on the case,) created the report for the DST review and attended the review as a consultant, helping us to argue our case successfully.

Throughout the process the Compass team was friendly, responsive and knowledgeable.

Having a team behind you, which understands the complexities and requirements of the process, helps all the parties involved to reach the correct decision on funding quickly.

Many thanks for your help in this claim.

You will be aware that Sarah passed away during the appeal process. However with her wishes we proceeded to claim the rightful amount the state owed her.

The CCG finally settled the claim at the end of June 2020, to the sum of just short of £80,000. A long and stressful process, we didn’t give up as perhaps the state hoped we would, as many people do in a similar position.

So with perseverance, with the right conditions and the right advice we can win and get what is rightfully ours.

Can you pass on our thanks to all those who worked on Sarah’s case and represented her at the various hearings.

I now recommend you to friends and colleagues who are in a similar situation.

Compass CHC provided an excellent service in helping me navigate my way around the care funding system and appealing successfully, the decision of the Health Authority/Commissioning Group.  This was not straightforward and involved a second tier Appeal to NHS England, due to the delays and/or failure of the original decision-makers to respond.  At times it felt as if such delays were designed to make me give up and I am sure they would have succeeded had I not had the advice and support of Compass CHC (and all occurred pre-Covid19).

Compass CHC were highly professional throughout and their preparation of the original complaint/appeal was meticulous.  Many hours must have gone in to the preparation of that document, the first tier appeal hearing and the eventual attendance before the NHS England.  They clearly know their stuff and helped me to present a case that I would not have been able to put together myself even though I am a lawyer myself.

It was stressful and upsetting to be confronted with and to have to explore the minutiae of my mother’s failing health.  However, I was assisted by Tim and his team in understanding the rationale for this.  It was necessary though and justified in the end for the 20+ page report from the Appeal Panel Chair, confirmed what I had already sensed to be the case ie that the original decision and the manner in which it had been arrived at, was plainly wrong.  This also applied to the decision of the person who conducted the internal/First Tier Appeal on behalf of the relevant Health Authority.

We were having a stressful time with our mum who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she got to the state where she could not manage her personal hygiene, eating etc. The social services were sent to her, as she would not let her family help. Social Services wanted her to go into a nursing home straightaway.

We had a number of different carers come into attend to mum, but she had a number of falls and had to be admitted to hospital each time. As she got worse we knew she should go into a nursing home, but we were obviously worried about the charges for these homes.

We were told about Compass CHC, so we gave them a call and explained the situation and we were told that we had a good case for CHC, so we asked Compass to take our case on. They gathered all the information needed from mum’s GP, hospitals etc. It was a stressful time for us, as we had not done this before, but all at Compass were kind and patient with us at all times. They kept us up to date with everything and we were represented at a funding meeting.

Later along the line Compass won the case for full funding for our mum, who is now 100 years old.

We recommend Compass CHC to anyone in our situation.

Thanks to all at Compass CHC.

We used Compass to try to secure Continuing Care for my father.  We were told at the outset we had a strong case and at that point in time (2015) they had never lost a case so we were confident.  He was turned down after the DST, we went to appeal and lost again (by this stage my father had died).  We took it all the way to NHS England for the independent panel review, this was slower as it was ‘retrospective’.

We had a successful outcome after the final appeal in early 2019 and a large part of his fees were reimbursed.

Compass were brilliant all the way through, even with a change of advocate at the last minute (which at the time troubled me somewhat but I needn’t have worried) – all of their staff are highly trained in this field and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

I can honestly say that if it had not been for your information and help though out my late Aunt’s case, I would not have known any different and would have led down a path that I’m sure the authorities seem happy for all of us to go. A path of ignorance and blind faith. We look to these authorities, be they Social Workers, NHS Staff or Nurses for guidance and help in our hour of need, and for some reason in both my cases we were told that we wouldn’t get any help as the patients both owned their own homes. How wrong they are to say this and mislead people with this wrong information.

I would lastly like to thank you 100% for the help in securing the refund of my late Aunt’s money, you were right from the start and told me we would have to be patient and just continue to provide all the information we could. In both my cases you have completely opened my eyes to how the powers that be will take from those they shouldn’t.

Thank you again on behalf of my whole family.

On hearing of our plight, friends that had already used the Compass service recommended that we give them a call. We had lost our father, leaving our mother, with vascular dementia and Alzheimers needing specialist care. Social workers were only interested in finding out what assets my mother owned, rather than openly explaining our rights.

This was rectified with a call to Compass, who asked the required questions relating to the checklist. They soon advised that we had a “good case” for funding. The local authority continued to push back and, on Compass’ advice, we took them to appeal. Our advocate (Miss Masumah Akbar) was excellent in calmly explaining the complexities within the varying components of the checklist/DST that should lead to funding being available.

Result – full CHC funding awarded, over £50,000 returned in fees paid to date (including interest) and ongoing funding agreed.

Compass handled the whole process professionally, skilfully and efficiently and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

My two previous requests for Continuing Health Care funding were turned down by the local authority. In their opinion my mother’s needs did not their criteria. She did not even meet their criteria for nursing care funding. The whole process was extremely challenging, disempowering and disappointing. My mother sadly passed away in July 2017.

A few weeks after my mums death I happened upon the Compass CHC website after reading an article in a newspaper, I was relieved that Compass felt that my mum had a case, as I was sure she did, they agreed to proceed. I was warned that as this would be a retrospective funding review it would NOT be a high priority for the local authority.

The team at Compass kept me informed during the lengthy process and were always extremely helpful, courteous and above all caring.

Two years later A phone call from Compass informed me that the NELCSU following their Ratification Panel had considered that my mum would be eligible for NHS Continuing Care funding for the entire period.

I was again forced at ask advice from Compass as four months passed after sending our documentation to the local authority without any results. Compass gave me an idea of how to frame a urgent request for a resolution. A week later the funds were released.

Without the help and support from the team at Compass I would never have considered taking this further, I am so grateful to them for their tenacity and professionalism.

Thank you.

After failing to secure NHS funding ourselves and paying out thousands in care home fees we engaged Compass CHC to be case handlers and legal advocates for our father’s claim for NHS funded care.

It’s a daunting prospect without professional help and advice to navigate the NHS framework, DST meetings and differing “professional” opinions of CCG representatives.

It’s the best thing we did as a family. Our Compass advocate was extremely astute, knowledgeable, professional and smart and was impressive with case handling arguments.

So much so that we requested the same advocate for the annual review, where again he succeeded in a positive outcome for us.

I would recommend any family faced with care home fees for their loved ones to talk to Compass CHC before you do anything.

Totally professional and ethical company… looking after your interests. A no brainer

Thanks to Compass we are waiting for a considerable sum of money for Dad’s care home fees, in spite of being told by the care home manager and the NHS professionals that he wasn’t eligible.

Compass investigated thoroughly and, having advised that, in their opinion, he was eligible, they took on our case and provided razor sharp advocates to speak on our behalf at the meetings.

Without them, we would have given up.

It has taken a very long time and Dad has passed away in the interim, but justice has finally prevailed.

The team reviewed the DST tools which were used to re-assess Mum’s situation and subsequent funding withdrawal. She was entitled to funding as she had been ‘fast-tracked’ by her local authority hospital. I am pleased to say that Kia Jago and the team did a great job in restoring her eligibility of funding and we wouldn`t hesitate in recommending them.

Outstanding service from Compass CHC. The challenge took a couple of years all in all and the CCG refused funding at every level of review which really disheartened us despite relatively high DST scores which were improved notably by the Compass advocate’s.

Half way through it all I felt like I’d wasted thousands of pounds pursuing the CHC funding and truly believed that it wasn’t possible and that the default decisions would be just to typically decline funding.  Then finally at the final stage, just at the point of escalating to NHS England, it was just before the meeting I got a call from Compass to tell me that the CCG agreed that my mother was in fact eligible and so not only approved funding but backdated it two years repaying a lump sum. Compass were very thorough and it’s really worth getting them to gather all the information and prepare the necessary evidence as they really know what they are doing.

I opted to have them attend at each stage which I feel was a must and they have again just helped re-secure another years funding after the initial 3 month review which is great. For the price of maybe a month’s care home fees you can potentially secure a year’s funding or beyond which is a no brainer financially.

I can honestly highly recommend them to take care of you and even though they were based at the opposite end of the country and we had to pay their travel expenses, I wouldn’t choose anyone nearer because I feel confident of their abilities for success.

I could never have achieved what Compass did on my own and I am eternally grateful to them for securing the refund of over one year’s worth of my mum’s care home fees.

Unfortunately my mum died on the 26th August before getting further benefit from what was achieved but she was very grateful to them for what they had done.

It was good to have had many conversations with the team at Compass, before committing to the expense of moving forward with the appeal process. Furthermore the process of challenging a decision and going to appeal is complex, both legally and medically. It is hard to imagine doing it without specialist support. Compass was simply invaluable.

I had prepared on behalf of my mother, two previous requests for Continuing Healthcare Funding, both turned down by the local authority due to not meeting their criteria. My mum did not even meet their criteria for nursing care funding. The whole process was extremely challenging, disempowering and disappointing. My mother sadly passed away in July 2017.

A few weeks after my mums death I happened upon the Compass CHC website after reading an article in a newspaper. I therefore them and was amazed that Compass felt that my mum had a case and they agreed to proceed. I was warned that as this would be a retrospective funding review, it would be a high priority for the local authority.

The team at Compass kept me informed during the lengthy process and were always extremely helpful, courteous and above all caring.

I received a phone call last Friday informing me that the NELCSU following their Ratification Panel has considered that my mum would be eligible for NHS Continuing Care funding for the entire period.

Without the help and support from the team at Compass, I would never have considered taking this further, I am so grateful to them for their tenacity and professionalism.

Thank you

Quite frankly we would never have achieved anything without the expertise and commitment from the Compass CHC advocates. The claim for CHC for my mother-in-law started way back in December 2017, however, due to the various delays by the authority it is only now that they have agreed to a refund which is just short of £100,000! Compass CHC have been supportive and committed throughout this time.

The fees that Compass CHC charge are negligible when one considers the weekly charges for care, and probably only represent a week or twos care costs. This is a small consideration when the refunds and ongoing CHC available are considerable, as in our case.

If you have any concerns regarding the capacity, status and care costs of your loved one, then I recommend you call Compass CHC, like I did.

Without the specialised expertise and support of Compass, I believe that it would be very unlikely that I would have arrived at any fair resolution.

We can’t thank your company enough for the assistance you provided to ensure my father won the funding he is entitled to.

I spent many hours trying to navigate the CHC framework, I found it to be incredibly difficult to fully understand, and felt it was maybe set out this way in order that it IS difficult to understand.

As the date of my fathers assessment neared I began to feel really anxious that I wasn’t properly prepared to fight his corner.

I contacted your company, had a quick over the phone consultation to ascertain my fathers likelihood of winning the funding and took things from there.

Although our assessment was imminent (two weeks away) you moved swiftly to ensure we managed to collect enough evidence to argue his case.

On the day of the assessment you sent an advocate (Amie Boothman), she was absolutely amazing, incredibly well prepared and totally professional, I have no doubt that her presence and expert knowledge of the process ensured our positive outcome.

So once again thanks to everyone involved.

I am so pleased I have had Compass to cover my back, especially when I felt so vulnerable and out of my depth.

Not only are you reliable, but you are able to negotiate your way through the labyrinth of the DST which helped to give me confidence and the hope that we would achieve a positive outcome. Which we have!
So, once again, please thank everyone for their diligence.

Best wishes. Valerie.

We as a family have been delighted with the service provided by Compass and are sure that we would not have received the funding without your help, despite the fact that my Dad is suffering severely with dementia and qualifies for CHC funding. On his review assessment in February, because we did not involve Compass on that occasion, he very nearly lost his funding.

We will definitely use Compass for his next review when we are advised of the date of it.

Good morning,

My father’s DST was held yesterday and I wonder if you would pass on my thanks to our advocate for her excellent representation at the meeting. She was extremely professional, well prepared, calm, confident and I felt very reassured by her presence.

We have yet to hear the final outcome, as some further monitoring of my father’s daily case notes is still to be considered, but I am sure the balance would have tipped against us being awarded the funding on the day had our advocate not used her experience to ensure that the scoring process was executed fairly and all evidence properly considered.

Many thanks again to all of the team who have been working so professionally in the background to prepare my dad’s case.

Kind regards

Mrs Hutchinson

Hello, Re the meeting yesterday. I would like to complement Arun Philip one on his appearance, he was very smart. Also he presented **** funding case very well indeed. An assured manner that held the whole room while he was talking. I feel that with Aruns efforts a favourable outcome will be assured.

This is fantastic news and I want to thank Compass very much for all it’s help with this matter.  I have been very impressed with the way my father’s case has been handled.

Throughout the whole process I have always been kept well informed of the progress of the case, and the two advocates who supported me and my mother at the meetings we had were extremely professional and well informed which helped to make us feel at ease in what could otherwise be a very stressful situation.

My mother aged 94 had been in a nursing home for two years, receiving funding from South Worcestershire CCG when without due reason or explanation in 2016 the funding was unilaterally removed using a process that did not comply with their own guidelines.

After many attempts at direct contact with them I was initially ignored and then fobbed off. I then asked Compass CHC for an opinion of the likelihood of success if they took on the case for me. I was provided with an impartial view and decided to ask them to progress an appeal for me.

They worked efficiently to obtain and analyse my mother’s case history and put together an accurate and convincing written appeal responding to and identifying the shortcomings, both factual and procedural, of the original CCG decision. I was then represented at an appeal hearing by a very capable young barrister who demonstrated very efficiently to the appeal panel why this decision should be overturned. I was subsequently very pleased to learn that the appeal had been upheld and the funding taken away from my mother was reinstated, backdated to the day it was removed.

The actions of the CCG had caused me much unnecessary distress on top of my worries about the health of my mother and the professional support of Compass gave me confidence matters would be resolved positively and their expertise ultimately achieved a most successful outcome.

I would like to thank everyone at Compass for the professional manner in which they handled my mother’s continuing healthcare assessment on the 23rd October. It was reassuring to have an advocate on that day. Having previously been through an MDT meeting unaided I can honestly say I would use Compass for all future assessments. It completely removed the stress and isolation of navigating the process. Put into context it’s worth every penny.

Hi Leah

Just letting you know that the CHC have agreed the funding for Mike. Unfortunately the room isn’t available anymore, but they have agreed that he can go daily until a room is available.

Thanks for your help, you were brilliant.

Regards, Sue

Just a quick note to say thank you for supporting my Dad’s checklist assessment today.

Arun was very impressive – supportive and professional and we would be really pleased if he could take our case forward to the next stage.

Just a little thank note of thanks, as Arun was very well read on everything with my mother, even going into the home the the previous evening to gather more evidence. He was very self assured and I was appreciative to have him with me.

Applying for Continuing Care can be quite daunting. It’s not well known about and not properly understood even among healthcare professionals outside those directly working in Continuing Care. If we had relied on or listened to the advice of some of the nurses and others visiting my mother then I suspect we would not have been successful. One Mental Health Nurse offered to help us do an application but freely admitted that she had never had a successful one and that perhaps she didn’t know the ‘right tricks’.

We were grateful therefore that we had already employed Compass to help us. They obtained all my Mother’s hospital records and went through them diligently to prepare the case. There were a lot of them as my Mother had spent two spells in three different hospitals totaling ten months since the end of 2016. The letter of representation to the CCG that they submitted on our behalf was eighty six pages long. We also had an advocate at the initial checklist meeting and another at the DST assessment meeting who were both very thorough, professional and supportive of our case on each occasion.

Thankfully we had a successful outcome and my Mother was granted fully funded care. I can certainly recommend Compass. It may seem an expensive outlay initially but actually it only amounts to a few weeks worth of care home fees so soon pays for itself.

On behalf of my sister and I, we would like to say we have now received a cheque for our late fathers care home fees. We would like to say we have no hesitation in recommending your company and to thank you for your work in recovering his care home fees. It’s impossible to do without the help of legal professionals. So pleased we used your company. Thank you.

From the family point of view we would like to say that the service your Company provided to ourselves was outstanding and should we ever get into a similar situation in the future we would definitely request your support again and would certainly recommend your Company to others who may have the same kind of problems relating to funding as we encountered ourselves.

Regards,

Gary & Stephen Kidd

Hello, I would just like to say how grateful I am to the Compass CHC team for the support Mum and I received. Our advocate has been very supportive and by being present at the DST helped secure further funding for my Mum. The whole area of CHC funding can become complicated and stressful. Compass CHC understand the processes, and can interpret legislation and guidance. Compass were able to scrutinise the clinical evidence, and relay their finding effectively to secure a positive outcome for us. I would not hesitate in recommending them.

Hi, I would like to thank Compass Continuing Healthcare for getting my father CHC funding, although CCG dragged out the process, Compass persistently contacted them and my father has been awarded the funding, thank you for all your help, and also for your prompt replies whenever I contacted you.

My father was denied continuing health care funding which shocked us as a family. We are all nurses so we knew that he did have a primary health need not just a social care need.  The manner in which his needs had been minimised and underplayed was astounding.

We contacted Compass CHC who took control of the situation for less than a month’s care home fees Compass CHC appealed and won gaining my father more than £40,000 back in fees.

In addition my father now receives free fully funded care, potentially saving him tens upon tens of thousands.

You may become frustrated at times as with all these things the process can be slow and the CCG work at their own pace but leave it with Compass CHC and they will move it along as quickly as they are able to do so.

Patience and stamina is required but Compass CHC will guide you through it.

You have nothing to lose if you don’t appeal then the money goes in care home/nursing fees anyway!

We are writing to say how much we appreciate the help and advice you have provided us over the last 6 months to support us seeking NHS Continuing Healthcare Funding.

We feel your support has certainly made a difference and we will continue to engage your services for any ongoing support and reviews. Many thanks.

When I decided to apply to the NHS for Continuing Health Care funding for my 92 year old auntie, who was in a nursing home suffering with dementia, I contacted Compass CHC because they specialised in this type of claim.

Data protection and dealing with multiple health agencies made this a long and complicated process but Compass kept me informed throughout the process, giving me regular updates and being tenacious in their pursuit of information from the health authorities, something I would have found both frustrating and difficult had I tried to do it myself.

Their fees were clear and fixed and the two representatives I saw from the firm were knowledgeable and professional. If you are considering pursuing such funding I would not hesitate recommending this firm.

Dear All!

I feel I must write to thank you for the time and effort put in by the whole team at Compass.

Absolutely could not have gone through this mine field on my own and your knowledge of who to keep contacting to move things forward I am sure played a very important part in securing this outcome. An outcome which I still can’t quite believe!

So thank you all so much for your assistance in this matter and in particular a huge thank you to my advocate Katherine Fretwell, her calm support and expertise throughout both meetings was invaluable.

Thank you all again, couldn’t have done it without you.

I certainly will be recommending Compass to anyone who I hear is incurring similar problems to mine.

Wishing you a fond farewell, and kind regards,

Mrs Leftwich

I would like to say a huge thank you to Compass and all of the team, but a special thank you to our advocates who are extremely professional and knowledgeable and helped to secure full funding for my mother. Without their help and support my mother would still have been paying her own care home fees these past months. I will certainly be seeking their help going forward, which unfortunately comes around so quickly, as once funding is secured there is then a 3 month review, then yearly reviews where the decision can be turned around.

Initially I was a little apprehensive in contacting Compass, but i had no reason to as it was the best thing I ever did, and I would urge anyone who feels their family member has been incorrectly assessed to contact Compass in the first instance. They are so helpful, and after an initial telephone consultation, will advise if they feel securing funding is justified, judged on each individual case. They checked through all of my mother’s care home records and compiled a lengthy representation. On three occasions I had an advocate come to the care home and attend various DST meetings. Through their extensive knowledge and professionalism they were able to secure funding for my mother. Had I not had their help and support my mother would still have been self-funding this past year. The cost of each stage of the process only equates to roughly a months’ care home fees, which is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost if having to self-fund going forward. I will certainly be seeking their help once again, should they feel my mother still warrants funding, at the forthcoming yearly review.  Many many thanks Compass. Extra special thank you to Helen and apologies for the delay in posting my review.

Mrs M. Dorward – Tyne and Wear

We as a family have found that Compass CHC have been found to be a genuine company that knows the NHS, CHC and Social Services methodology and works with families to ensure that correct procedures are adhered to with Professional people who carry out investigations thoroughly and get the results of budget protecting authorities overturned, they are a friendly approachable company and I only wish I had known of this company 6 years ago to assist us on getting the correct funding for our Mother and having all the stress of these unfortunate events with loved ones taken away.

Compass have worked diligently on our behalf. What they have achieved for us is the reward for many many hours of thorough research. The staff who came to support us at the critical meetings were outstanding.

All our dealings with the staff at Compass were both pleasant and professional.

We would recommend them very highly. We have tried to get CHC before without success and would not have been successful this time without them.

Would you be so kind as to pass my thanks on to our advocate for his input and support.

It’s always a bit of a worry meeting someone for the first time going into a meeting not knowing if they are the right sort of person for you . But for me our advocate took control and handled it all in a way that I was hoping. Clearly no result yet but which ever way it goes please thank him for me.

Kind Regards

Ms CC

On 10th April, I attended the Checklist stage of my mother’s application to receive Continuing Healthcare.

I had the pleasure of meeting two of your Advocates.  Prior to the meeting they gave me a briefing on how the Checklist procedure would take place, so I had an idea what to expect.

During the Checklist process I was very impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of your advocates in addressing some of the points raised by the CCG representative.  I feel without their input the initial stage of my mother’s application may not have progressed as well as it did.

Would you please pass on my sincere thanks to both gentlemen.

Best regards

Mr GC

Can I place on record my appreciation for the help your company has given in representing my mother at her recent DST meeting and subsequent communication. Would you please pass on my family’s appreciation in particular to Ms Georgina Thompson who represented us on the day. She is a credit to your organisation and we are sure without her professionalism the decisions made may have been a little different.

Following the granting of healthcare funding for my late mother, and the subsequent overturning of that decision, I was advised by a private healthcare professional to approach Compass CHC with a view to appealing the decision. From the outset, the company was very clear in what it would and could do, as well as the costs. Over the best part of a year, Compass staff have been consummately professional, swift to answer my queries, and meticulous in preparing the case for appeal, as well as being very compassionate when my mother passed away.

Following the appeal meeting, the grant for the original funding was upheld, thanks in no small part to the Compass lawyer on the day. I have been delighted and relieved with the end result, and cannot recommend Compass too highly: nice, understanding folk, professional to the hilt.

I would like to thank the entire Compass team for your ongoing support and advice – I really couldn’t have done this on my own. Also many thanks to Mr Tyler Bowden who was a superb advocate yesterday. He was calm, professional, well prepared but also extremely personable.- really reassuring to have him sat by my side during the meeting!

Does what it says on the tin – Compass Continuing Healthcare were successful in winning our claim for continued health care (CHC) funding. I wasn’t able to find too many comments on the internet about claiming for CHC funding but have been relieved to find how professional and effective Compass are at what they do.

My mother has advanced stages dementia, has had falls and one seizure over the last year. She had been in a care home for 8 months when we asked Compass to manage our CHC claim. Compass identified that she was eligible for the funding. This CHC process is clearly an incredibly complex one and I can imagine it would have been very stressful having to work with the NHS to make the claim, I feel I’ve been spared that worry! Claim took nearly a year to complete but funding is backdated to the checklist date.

Cost for Compass’s work has amounted to equivalent of less than 5 weeks care costs so has already been totally worth doing. Ongoing we will use Compass to support us through the NHS CHC care reviews to ensure funding is maintained.

Very grateful to Compass.

I first instructed Compass CHC subsequent to the full continuing healthcare assessment of my mother on 25 April 2017. I only wish I had known what I know now and had instructed Compass for the initial assessment also.

Although I had some misgivings about Compass at the initial investigation stage as there was confusion about what medical records had been obtained and, thus, delays in chasing up the records, I cannot fault the team’s professionalism and knowledge in, thereafter, a) assimilating the vast amount of information contained in the medical records from the two hospitals and the care home; b) getting to grips with the pertinent points and areas in contention; c) producing a detailed 43 page letter of appeal representations and, finally, d) attending at the appeal hearing to argue why my mother should receive full funding for her care.

Compass CHC resolved there were four domains in contention and this was what the appeal hearing should focus on. The Advocate attending the appeal hearing, Andrew Carman, met me an hour before the appeal hearing and we discussed the four domains over a nice cappuccino. Andrew put me at my ease straight away and I immediately felt comfortable in his presence as he had an air of confidence and calmness about him. Andrew talked to me about the process and the fact the panel may ask me some questions about my mother. He showed me on his laptop what arguments he was going to put forward as to why my mother should have been awarded funding. He also explained what the potential outcomes could be and what the next steps could be going forward. He answered all my questions and reassured me that as far as he was concerned we had a good case to appeal and even if the decision did not go our way at this appeal stage, he felt there was sufficient evidence to support us going on to the next stage, which would be the Independent Review Panel.

At the meeting the panel wanted me to tell them a bit about what mother was like as a person, which I thought was a nice thing to do as it made the panel think about her as a real person and not just as a paper exercise. Andrew Carman, because of his knowledge of how the system works and what the appeal panel needed by way of succinct arguments in relation to the domains in dispute, was able to change two of the disputed domain scores to the higher levels. The panel was stuck on a third domain and could not decide whether to score it from High to Severe but, by that stage, because Andrew had convinced them there was a “health need” and that my mother did meet at least one if not two of the Intensity, Complexity and Unpredictability criteria, the panel found in our favour and awarded continuing health care funding.

I am most grateful to the team at Compass and, in particular, to Andrew, and I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone who is in the same position of trying to secure NHS funding for their loved ones who are in a care situation. I know I would not personally have been able to undertake the process by myself as I do not have the knowledge, experience or expertise that Andrew and Compass have in dealing with this type of situation. Andrew and the team at Compass are dealing with appeal hearings and assessment meetings all the time and have a great deal of knowledge about how the system works and what the NHS Continuing Healthcare funding people are looking for.

I know this is not the end of the process as the NHS will be assessing mother again in 3 months time. I know for sure that I will be on the phone to Andrew at that time, asking him to represent mother and me at that assessment meeting in order to, hopefully, secure funding going forward.

My sister and I would like you to know how impressed we were with the effort made by your advocate Edward Bennett this morning. He had a full grasp of the brief, spent sufficient time preparing us for our input into the meeting and he made appropriate and well argued contributions when they were needed. Edward presented and operated, throughout the meeting, as a skilled and knowledgable professional.

We may or may not succeed in our case but we feel that Compass, and Edward in particular, has given us a fighting chance.

We expect to continue our case to the next stage and we both feel secure in the knowledge that we will retain your continued support.

Thanks to the excellent support and assistance from Compass Continuing Healthcare, we were able to successfully challenge the NHS decision in respect of continuing healthcare funding for our late father. From the initial assessment of our father’s situation, right through to the successful appeal, all the Compass staff involved in the case were professional, knowledgeable, helpful and supportive. We believe that having a knowledgeable advocate to represent us at the appeal meeting made a real difference and contributed significantly to a successful outcome.

I very much appreciate the service and effectiveness displayed by our advocate at the September Assessment.

Our advocates representation was highly professional and reassuring.

Please can you advise our advocate that I have today received confirmation that [my aunt] has been awarded CHC funding.

I want to thank him for all his help. An extremely professional gentlemen.

Hi Georgie,

Thank you, it was nice to meet you too and I can’t thank you enough for your help with the meeting at such short notice. My Mum had no idea what the meeting would be like and you helped her through it in a calm professional manner.

Even if we are unable to secure funding you helped us both through a very difficult process and a difficult time.

Thank you again.

Good afternoon

I just wanted to let you know my husband has successfully been awarded full NHS Continuing Healthcare.

I wanted to thank all the staff that were involved in our case.

Dear Compass CHC

Can you thank Helen who was amazing today.

Also can you tell her that after she went the local authority put his head round the door and said as from now (today) we no longer need to pay any fees and he was going back to fast track it. I’m very optimistic that we will get the rest refunded.

Thank you to everyone.

Thank you our Advocate was superb.

As ‘self funders’ there was not much help or advice from anywhere, about anything, when I was trying to do the best for my Mum.

I had looked into NHS Continuing Healthcare funding and had read the handbook from cover to cover but the problem is that it is not something that you can fill in forms and apply for yourself. It has to be done by healthcare professionals and due to a varying number of circumstances I could never speak to the same person or even get someone to return my calls when I was trying to get Mum assessed.

After a period of 6 months I was really desperate and found Compass CHC online. I took a chance and phoned them to ask advice on how I could start Mum’s case off.  They were the first people to listen and didn’t try a hard sale but said I should know the handbook inside out and quote it. My problem was I had no one I could even speak to let alone quote it to! After a further two weeks of trying to speak with someone I gave up and called Compass CHC back. They did a quick assessment and said they thought Mum would qualify (for NHS continuing healthcare funding). I asked them to take Mum’s case on and the ball was rolling. They were straight on to getting records from the doctor, hospital and Mum’s care home.  They were able to set deadlines and move Mum’s case forward.

There was a meeting which Natasha attended as advocate. Natasha knew Mum’s case inside out and had answers and examples for all of the domains of the Checklist and DST. We were successful in securing funding for 3 months.  The fee to Compass CHC worked out at approximately one month of that 3 months so it hadn’t cost anything.

Next was the 3 month review. I was undecided about paying Compass CHC to help me with the review, but I am glad I did.

Again Compass CHC got all the records from the relevant parties and submitted an excellent letter of representation. Tyler was the advocate for the review meeting and although I think the comprehensive letter of representation went a very long way towards reinforcing Mum’s case Tyler’s quick responses to some of the questions during the meeting was none other than impressive and we secured a further years funding.  The decision to go with Compass and engage an advocate was definitely the right one for us.

My advice would be give Compass CHC a call, they will listen and give best advice. Unfortunately not everyone will meet the requirements for the continuing healthcare funding but I think Compass CHC would be very honest in telling you whether, in their opinion, it would be worth you proceeding.

I promised to advise you when I heard anything significant from the Continuing Healthcare Team. There have been various communications which resulted in me receiving, last Saturday, a cheque for £40,252.12

I would like to say thank you to all the team at Compass CHC for their dedication in pursuing this matter.

I just want to say thank you for your help and guidance before and during the funding meeting today.

I was very impressed by your knowledge and expertise and the professional way you displayed it throughout the meeting.

Thank you, Compass CHC for listening when no one else would.

Very satisfied with result from Compass Continuing Healthcare. Large sum of money refunded due to mental health issues being recognised. Thank you.

I have to give a special thank you to our advocate, without his imput and assurances, I very much doubt I would have had the knowledge and confidence to proceed on my own. I personally think the services of an advocate are paramount. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend yourselves, Compass, to anyone thinking of applying for CHC. I have been very pleased with the way everyone I spoke to and dealt with was always so helpful.

It’s nice to know I can contact you in future should I need any help again.

Yours gratefully

Ann

Dear Compass

I just wanted to write a short email to say how impressed I was today with our advocate who attended the checklist meeting at Camberley Manor for my father.  I was deeply shocked at the hostility, aggression and rudeness shown to our advocate by the CHC Nurse.  The meeting was uncomfortable, protracted and painful. Our advocate however was extremely well prepared, polite, pleasant and persistent and quite frankly we would not have had a leg to stand on if she had not been representing us.  I did tell our advocate that I was very grateful that she was there, sorry for the awful treatment she was given, and that she was worth every penny!

I feel very confident in her and her abilities and just wanted to pass that on to you.

With kind regards

Karen Brown

Without advice from Compass I wouldn’t have known to ask for the screening test and we would have had to pay the full fees.  They assisted through an appeal process, so for the cost of one weeks fees we are now being refunded 13 months fees – this proved to be an excellent investment.

A very, very big thank you to all the ‘Compass Team’ for all your help in my mothers case and winning her NHS Continuing Healthcare. A very stressful time for me but make so much easier with expert advice from you all. Richard, Jess and Tyler for calming me and make me feel in control!

Eve is now doing well and her care is excellent.

Best regards,

Edna

Dear Mr Davies,

At last I have received a cheque in full settlement re the above named retrospective review and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and all your staff for the help and assistance you gave myself and my family in taking this case on and winning it for us. Without your help and expertise we would not have known where to start, especially with all the legal jargon etc. I know at the time, with everything else going on I did not have the energy left in me to fight this case on my own, so thank heavens for people like you.

I shall definitely recommend your company to other people in the same position.

Many many thanks again,

Yours sincerely,

Mrs M Holtby

We would like to thank our advocates of Compass Continuing Healthcare for the advice, support and work that they have provided to us. We were not happy with a continuing health care assessment that our mother underwent whilst resident in hospital. Given our mother had lost capacity as regards her needs for care and treatment, as sisters, we were part of the process that took place. In short the assessment process was poor in our opinion; not taking into account our mother’s illnesses/conditions, capacity issues, presentation in hospital, history before admission, risks and long term health needs. Our mother presented as unpredictable with many risks. Nursing care was required on discharge; which we agreed was necessary.

We contacted Compass Continuing Healthcare who listened and showed care towards ourselves and our mother. From the information we gave they advised, that in their opinion, our mother qualified for continuing health care. However, they would need to assess further through medical records for evidence from other sources i.e. medical opinion. This they did and advised that, in their opinion, our mother did qualify and there was evidence in medical records to support this. They communicated with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) involved with the Continuing Healthcare Assessment. They highlighted the areas that they felt were incorrect from evidence that they had found. There were great problems in being able to receive a consistent response from the CCG. Compass Continuing Healthcare did not give up on this and at times contacted the CCG on a daily basis for a response.

Although we would have continued to pursue this ourselves, we would not have had the knowledge and expertise. Compass Continuing Healthcare had this expertise and knowledge and were able to deal with the process efficiently and correctly. For instance, The CCG tried to do a reassessment rather than deal with the appeal on the initial assessment.

Compass Continuing Healthcare won our case on behalf of our mother. We are extremely grateful for their efficiency, expertise, knowledge and understanding. Throughout they were very considerate to our needs and we appreciated this. We would certainly recommend this organisation to others.

Having responsibility for an elderly parent with complex needs is challenging for any family and the prospect of preparing for a Continuing Health Care Assessment can be daunting. Compass CHC guided us calmly through the whole process, from accessing doctor, hospital and care home records, through collating, organising and building our case to representing us at the CHC assessment and then at the three month review with confidence and expertise.

I feel sure that the evidence presented at the assessments came across so strongly and was weighed so carefully because of the presence of our advocate from Compass CHC. I would have no hesitation in recommending Compass CHC to any family.

Dear Tyler and The Office Manager,

I wanted to say a big thank you to you both. You were ever so helpful with answering my questions and offering me support after my father had suffered a Stroke.

I was and am truly grateful for your time and advice. The hospital in question have reversed their decision and have awarded my father on going Medical Care which is the appropriate decision. The hospital made this decision after a change of discharge nurses and a reassessment of my father, nevertheless the Office Manager and Tyler Bowden at Compass helped me understand the behaviour of the NHS which strengthened to know there was a more suitable alternative for my father (in the end this did not require legal intervention). I was comforted knowing I could have commissioned Compass CHC to have fought on our behalf if it was needed.

Mr Berwick

Tim Davies is tenacious and knowledgeable as well as being a skilled negotiator. We wouldn’t have secured funding without him. Thank you!

We turned to Compass CHC for help when, my brother-in-law, who suffered from very advanced Alzheimer’s  and other severe health problems, had suffered a fall and was in hospital.  The hospital could clearly do no more for him and he needed full time nursing preferably in a nursing home.

We found ourselves at the mercy of very unhelpful social services employees, and with a dearth of information or help, realised that we needed some professional assistance to find our way through the Continuing Care funding nightmare.

We used Compass for this help and found them to be totally supportive, extremely knowledgeable, and very caring.  Thanks to their input and support we managed to get Continuing Care very early in the process and this has given the peace of mind that we need at this difficult time.

I would therefore not hesitate to recommend this professional team at Compass CHC.

John Phipps

My father-in-law, who had been given a terminal diagnosis, had reached the point where he was immobile. The local GP, advised admission to hospital and suggested that a Nursing Home ought to be considered, and that he would have to be self-funding.

My father-in-law then spent two months in hospital, to the point that, although he was still in need of medical care (Oxygen 24/7, his urinary catheter having to be flushed out at least twice a day, plus morphine pain relief, a bad chest infection, with ongoing antibiotics administered), a decision was made by the discharge team, that he should be moved to a Nursing home, and that he would be self-funding.

I had guessed that would be the judgment of the Hospital discharge team, given the views of the local GP. Despite this I was convinced he should qualify for Continuing Healthcare Funding, but I lacked the expertise to challenge the decision. A week before the discharge was to take place, I had contacted Compass CHC, who provided an assessment by phone that he should qualify. I then paid the fee for Compass CHC to prepare a case. I had discussed the matter with my father-in-law, and we took the view that even if we lost an appeal against the decision, he would be no worse off, as the fee came out of his resources, and the amount would simply be an amount less that Social Services could claim.

I then was able to speak to the Discharge Team about the provision of Continuing Healthcare Funding. I was told that the matter had been discussed and that he did not qualify. I then listed my father-in-laws medical needs (beyond nursing care) and informed the lady to whom I spoke, that I had taken advice from a specialist firm, who suggested my father-in-law qualified, and that they would submit a fast track application. Within four hours, the lady telephoned back, and said that the funding had now been granted! We had a choice of three Nursing Homes, and although my father-in-law died two weeks after he was moved, the care provided in the Shaftesbury Cedars Nursing Home (a not for profit charity) was exemplary.

Although Compass CHC in the end did not need to action an application, they had gained the records from which to mount a claim, and I suspect the very fact they were behind us, was sufficient to cause a rethink by the Hospital Discharge Team, and grant that which was our due. It is lamentable that no-one in the chain from GP to the Hospital suggested that we might qualify. Although the information is in the Hospital’s leaflets, until my informed challenge, we were only ever told that my father-in-law will be self-funding.

The Reverend Dr Michael Foster

Thank you again to Compass, this time for making sure that my sister’s funding remains in place.

The advocate who took part at the assessment was very professional and knowledgeable. I could not have managed any of this without Compass, I recommend that anyone who has a strong case for CHC approach Compass for advice.

Compass CHC have been supporting us with mum’s continuing health care funding since December 2019, and it’s finally been awarded.

It’s been a bumpy ride, with lots of unanticipated twists and turns, but Compass CHC have been there to guide us and represent mum’s best interests throughout.

Through their perseverance, coupled with our tenacity, mum finally accessed her rights and got her health and social care needs met by the state as they should be, Thank you so much.

Every step of this process – which took over two years – seemed an act of faith, and Compass had to take our case all the way to NHS England.

Throughout, we were highly impressed by the detail contained in their reports – they had expertly analysed care home notes against ‘domain’ scoring, challenging the very low values awarded on assessment and appeal by our local CCG.

When we were refused on appeal, we kept faith – and indeed after a lengthy battle – prolonged by Covid – Compass were successful in winning reimbursement of over a year’s worth of care home fees.

In my view, they are utterly trustworthy, professional and completely transparent in their fee structure, so that we knew from the start what we were risking – about two month’s fees were required to establish my sister’s primary health need.

To us it was a matter of principle as well as finances. Ignore any doubters – if the case is genuine and well founded (which they will advise on) Compass can and will succeed for you.

I am so grateful I came across this company, very professional and let me know from the very beginning whether I had a good chance of winning our appeal which I’m so grateful as we won, I could never of done this alone.

I definitely recommend this company for anyone who is looking to appeal their CHC decision.

Brilliant Co, helped with every step of this care funding minefield, I would highly recommend them to any family looking for assistance with an elderly relative’s care funding.

We were repeatedly told by the care home that mum wouldn’t qualify for funding as she has dementia….just as well we didn’t listen…funding was granted yesterday

Compass have been invaluable throughout the process and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I would also like to thank the NHS assessment team, who handled our case sensitivity & professionally.

We wanted to claim, not for the money that we had paid out for my mum’s care (although that is very welcome) , but for justice to prove that my mum was entitled to CHC even before she went into the care home.

Compass supported us all the way with our retrospective claim, our emotional journey reliving my mum’s final passing was dealt with sensitively and professionally.

Can’t recommend them highly enough.

I cannot recommend Compass Continuing Health highly enough.

In desperation we decided to contact Compass when we were getting nowhere with our mothers need for continuing health care which we were sure should of been provided. The red tape and our lack of knowledge was making us hit a “brick wall” time and time again.

It has taken three years and sadly the death of our dear mother to get a successful outcome. Compass were beyond professional they were outstanding and have all the knowledge and understanding of this very difficult and complex system.

We never thought for one minute they would succeed.

Finally after a long drawn out process we have been granted full funding right up to the death of our dear mother. Funding we should never have had to pay which resulted in the sale of the family home. This will now be refunded in full and would never have happened without Compass.

I would advise anyone in this situation to never hesitate in using their expertise. It’s not quick but they persevere and did the very best they could to obtain what we saw as justice for our dear mother.

Thank you so much Compass you are extremely efficient and did everything you promised to give us the funding we should so rightly have been given but would have lost without your knowledge and perseverance.

Amazing outcome

I can’t fault the team in helping get CHC for my Dad.

It was a long process which went to appeal then NHS England but without their expertise and knowledge we would never had got justice for my Dad.

Sadly he passed away before final decisions were made but in the end he was awarded it and he should never not have been given it such was his condition.

CHC is a complex process but Compass took away the worry and the stress of navigating a system which seeks to try and exclude those who clearly meet the criteria abd without the help of their advocates and the time taken to review in detail the appalling conduct of the CQC and the way they try and stop patients and loved ones being awarded it it was amazing.

Families are easily lost and don’t have the expertise to see the process through alone and I would highly recommend people use Compass and receive the entitlement which is there but not easy to obtain.

Without Compass we probably would have found it very hard to reach the outcome that my Dad deserved and was entitled to. It’s rare to have to go through an appeal process then to NHS England but it was worth it in the end.

Thanks so much for all your efforts and work,
Emma Aurelia

I am very pleased with the service delivered by Compass and all the staff.

The system of chc seems to be encouraging the employees at CCG’s to be dishonest. This is because the savings the NHS has to make at this very important and critical stage anyone could be in, are too much to do honestly.

In my case the CCG committed and easily provable fraud by withholding vital information from me and even when I had exposed this they merely apologised and ignored the information.

I am glad that justice has been done and appreciate what Molly Dack did at both the meetings.

I am pursuing the criminal side of my case as I feel that most people would not have discovered what the CCG did.

Thanks again.

CCH have progressed a claim on behalf of my mother over the last 10 months leading to success at stage 1.

Their approach has been very professional and communication very effective. All queries and concerns from initial contact right through the process have been dealt with promptly and with empathy. There was no pressure to take up the service just a concise statement as to what they would do for the initial fee and an indication as to the likelihood of success.

I have been delighted with the service provided by CCH and have no hesitation in recommending their services to any would be clients.

We were paying for fathers care out of our parents limited funds and all was going well in terms of care, but at approximately £100 a day our parents’ assets were rapidly being depleted. It was a friend who alerted me to NHS continuing healthcare, everyone I spoke to at the time, GPs surgery, etc feigned no knowledge or genuinely had no or very limited knowledge. The GPs practice manager rather ‘helpfully’ suggested that I try Google! I did. I worked out that NHS CHC funding is very difficult and complicated to obtain, this was confirmed by an acquaintance who is a retired NHS consultant, she stated that it was designed for people not to get. Again I Googled and found Compass, the initial contact on the phone was excellent in terms of inspiring confidence, the gentleman I spoke to reminded me of my very expensive lawyer.

I discussed the issue with my family and we decided that we would risk the investment with Compass, as ‘big picture’ even if nothing was achieved, spending money on Compass merely brought forward the point at which our parents’ assets would be depleted to such an extent that means tested state benefits kick in. This may sound perverse but it is the reality of the situation.

We engaged Compass, father caught Covid and was officially declared ‘end of life’ and placed on the end of life register. At this stage father’s care costs were picked up by NHS CHC, it was suggested that we select an undertaker as father was so ill. However, due to excellent care that was several months ago and father is doing very well. After six months as father ‘hadn’t died’ there was a review of father’s NHS CHC and one of the NHS functionaries said on the phone that it was very likely that father’s NHS CHC funding would cease after the review. We discussed this with Compass and engaged a member of the Compass team to act as father’s advocate at the NHS CHC review. Mr Mycroft Watts of Compass represented father at a Microsoft Teams meeting which lasted approximately two and a half hours, he had all the information at this fingertips and the outcome was that father continues to receive his NHS CHC funding. I am not convinced that we would have had the same outcome had we not engaged Compass. We as a family are very grateful for the help that we have received from Compass.

I contacted Compass CHC after my mum was taken into hospital after a fall at home. It became apparent that she would no longer be able to manage at home anymore even with carers for 4 hours each day.

That’s why when the hospital said she would need full time care in a home, I contacted Compass and told them everything that had happened over the past 3 years and what we were being told by the discharge team and after going through some details, they said they can help.

Yes, it cost money to engage their services, but compared to her potentially loosing everything she’d ever worked for, I felt it was worth trying for what she would have wanted.

I can’t say enough about how much support Compass gave, not just to me, but to my siblings – any questions we had were answered fully, any fears allayed, nothing was too much trouble.

All the way through, we knew there were no guarantees of a positive outcome, we just knew deep down that my mum met the criteria so began the journey and am glad we did as funding was secured for my mum at the end of May this year.

I contacted Compass two years ago to help with an application for funding for my wife’s nursing home costs. The process was delayed due to the pandemic, but was eventually successful due to the excellent advocacy by the Compass team at the initial hearing and at the subsequent appeal hearing.

The NHS does not make the process user friendly and there is absolutely no doubt on my mind that success would not have been achieved had I tried to do this without professional support from Compass.

I have no hesitation in recommending their service.

I am so very grateful to Compass for getting my sister’s funding reinstated, it was removed in April 2020 after an assessment with the local CCG was undertaken.

Compass staff were there to help and encourage from the first time I approached them.

My sister’s records were thoroughly investigated and professionally dealt with. I could not have achieved this on my own.

I am so grateful that I found Compass on a website. Looking into funding is a daunting task, leaving it to Compass was a relief.

I would recommend Compass to anyone seeking help and advice with a relative’s funding. I would certainly use Compass again if it was necessary.

I appointed Compass back in April 2017 when my uncle was being moved into a nursing home with multiple issues. The CCG assessed him in May in the nursing home as he was discharged on a 6 week funding agreement and despite his obvious health needs he was denied funding (apart from a health top up direct payment to the home from the NHS) – despite all efforts to appeal the CCG would not change their minds but last week after Compass had taken the case through to NHS England we were awarded 100% refund.

My uncle sadly passed away in December 2019 – the CCG has accepted the decision from NHS England and I will hopefully be reimbursed shortly.

I would not have continued with this had it not been for the tenacity of Compass.

Thank you so much.

Most grateful to Compass CHC for a job well done. Prompt professional advice from all members of the team throughout the process.

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone at Compass. I’m sure we would not have received any CHC funding without their support and guidance.

Initially, we thought Continuing Healthcare Funding was only for people in care homes or for people on low incomes, not for people living in their own homes with day carers or live-in carers.

We chose Compass CHC because we liked the way they clearly explained the process and did not pressure us for a decision as to how to proceed. They were also very fair and honest and told us if they did not think there was any merit in taking the claim to the next level, which would involve paying further fees.

Another reason for choosing Compass CHC was that they have a fixed fee whereas some companies work on a “No Win, No Fee” basis, but then take a large percentage of the final pay-out.

Thanks to the detailed analysis of care and medical records by Compass CHC and their attendance and support at meetings with the Clinical Commissioning Group (the CCG), the CCG agreed that my relative was eligible for CHC funding. However, the CCG withdrew the funding 9 months later, but thanks to a detailed appeal from Compass CHC, this was reinstated for the remaining period until my relative passed away. Compass CHC also helped us with a successful retrospective claim for funding covering part of the period from leaving hospital until the initial funding was granted.

Without a doubt, we would not have achieved these successful outcomes on our own without support from the team at Compass CHC. Not only the advocates that we met at the meetings, which were initially in person and latterly via Teams, but also their colleagues in the office have all been extremely helpful and courteous throughout the 3.5 years that we have worked with them on these claims. They analysed medical reports and care records with an incredible degree of thoroughness and professionalism and presented extremely detailed submissions to the CCG.

Compass have been brilliant! Totally professional in every aspect. We were kept informed at every stage and felt very involved and got the positive result we always hoped for.

No hidden costs and would say the best value for money we have spent. Wish we had come across Compass years before!

Have just completed a successful appeal process at NHS England and were very impressive with Compass CHC’s Service from start to finish.

Their research and information gathering was impeccable and representation of our case at the two appeal hearings was brilliant.

The advocates Amie and Molly were calm, well prepared and presented our case intelligently.

The process took over 3 years, but this was not the fault of Compass but more the intransigence of the local authority.

Highly recommended.

Excellent service and communication.

Could not have done this on our own and were very pleased with the outcome.

Two years of anxiety and stress over at last!

I can honestly say I don’t think I would have achieved the same result in overturning the CHC decision not to fund my poor old Dad – who’s needs for his advanced dementia were even beyond the capabilities of the dementia care home – without the help of Compass CHC. They contacted and obtained info from numerous departments and compiled a very comprehensive 108 full pages of evidence, they submitted the appeals to the LRP (the CHC’s own Review Panel which of course wasn’t overturned) and then to the IRP of NHS England who upheld my Appeal.

So reassuring having my Advocate, Molly, at the Appeals to stand my ground and speak up on my behalf – she did a great job!

To get to the NHS IRP Appeal it cost me £8680.00 – a lot of money I know, but not compared to what it would have cost if I’d not won the Appeal!

My husband had vascular dementia and DST forms were completed for NHS funding, one on discharge from hospital and one after admission to a Nursing home. Both were turned down.

We approached Compass Continuing Healthcare who said we had a case. An appeal was commenced early in 2017. After interminable delays because hospital and homes obstructed things by tardy release of documents a hearing took place in May 2019. From hospital records it showed there had been a number of untruths on the first DST and the panel decided the original decision was wrong and we received a refund.

In May 2019 a further DST was completed and despite our appeal victory we were again refused funding. Another appeal commenced and then Covid came along which was the excuse for yet more delays.

However, we have now received a verdict that this DST decision was wrong and we are to get another refund.

Without the expert knowledge of Compass we would not have been successful. However I do believe that Compass could have communicated more frequently with reports on what was going on. My husband died in December 2019.

I Googled Compass and saw that the reviews they had were favourable, it is quite worrying handing over a few thousand pounds to a company that you have only read about in the last couple of days but in fairness to them they handled my father’s CHC claim very well and the knowledge provided by Mr. Otu the advocate for my father, was immense and questioned any decision from the NHS that he believed needed more discussion.

Yes it cost almost two months of care home fees but the savings over the course of a year far exceed the fees I paid so for that it was more than worth it.

Compass have been brilliant! Totally professional in every aspect especially our advocate Gemma.

We were kept informed at every stage and felt very involved and got the positive result we always hoped for.

No hidden costs and would say the best value for money we have spent.

Wish we had come across Compass years before!

Compass CHC have been excellent both in their communication and support. We have been kept in touch at every step.

It was a little longer in processing due to the lockdown limitations but never the less we received a successful outcome.

I am now going back to them to get a respective claim launched.

Well worth the money to save a loved ones home.

Very helpful team. It was a hard slog during an upsetting time and we, as the bereaved family, were totally bamboozled.

If we hadn’t of gone to Compass we would of been fobbed off.

Thank you Compass, professional and understanding.

Great professional support through a process which requires a lot of expertise and which is designed to ensure your chances of receiving full CHC are minimal.

Google review:

My stepmother deteriorated very quickly even though she was in an assisted living apartment and after a period in hospital it was agreed she could not return to her apartment but was not entitled to any funding.

The home thought she may improve in her new environment but it was not the case. I don’t know how health boards compare but the one I was dealing with was completely unhelpful with one person seeming to have a great deal of power.

I enlisted the assistance of Compass as it became clear that as a lay person I was totally disregarded. Eventually with the assistance of the home we accumulated enough evidence to insist on a review. Fortunately using Compass as an advocate, we were given a verbal assurance of CHC but even then it took five months for authorisation to be received in writing.

I marked down one star as over the two years of the process there were some staff changes which with Covid disrupted the process.

From start to finish the case was dealt with amazingly, no hidden costs, we were told everything upfront and the outcome was exactly what we wanted for my Nan.

Would 100% recommend Compass.

Thank you

Its been a long journey obtaining CHC funding for my mother for her dementia care. This has included winning CHC funding, losing it after CCG reassessment 6 months later, then winning again after appeal with NHS England!

I was sceptical about Compass validity and costs but have been reassured by the consistent results over the last two years, and would certainly use their services again!

Hopefully the government will sort out soon, this unfair mess that is CHC funding!

My Mother entered a nursing home in 2014 with Alzheimer’s disease. As she deteriorated, CCG meetings were held annually to assess the level of care funding she could receive or, as in her case, not receive.

The CCG had declined to pay my Mother continuing health care several times as they said ‘she doesn’t have a primary health care need’. Through frustration and desperation, I contacted Compass and they were supportive throughout every stage of the process.

They called for another DST and a Compass advocate attended. The CCG declined again but Compass advised us to appeal as they felt my Mum had a primary health care need and the scores demonstrated this. We appealed and again an advocate attended. Once more we were declined. I felt like giving up but Compass supported me and I decided to keep going. There was another review and finally the case went to an independent review panel through NHS England. An advocate from Compass supported me at the meeting.

Throughout the process, Compass advocates met with me either for pre briefings and debriefs. I felt supported throughout.

Eventually, after nearly 3 years of challenging the CCG, the decision came back at the final stage of the process.

The CCG’s decision was found to be unsound. If it wasn’t for the support and guidance from Compass, the severity of my Mother’s condition would not have been fully acknowledged and her award of CHC would not have been achieved. Her CHC funding was backdated to the DST first attended by Compass.

Thank you to all involved from the advocates to the support staff who meticulously work to fully understand my Mother’s condition. Without you we would have given up hope and stopped challenging their decisions.

I would encourage anyone who feels they aren’t being heard by their local CCG to contact Compass to see if they can help you too.

My mother was granted full funding in January 2021. She has advanced Alzheimer’s and we are caring for her at home.

Compass’ expert advocates guided us every step of the way and represented us at both DST meetings.

Without their help, we wouldn’t have been successful, because we would not have known what to do and how to prepare for this.

We now have a live-in carer and this has made a huge difference to our lives.

Thank you Compass for helping us to achieve this!

My Mum has dementia and was admitted into Hospital with a Broken hip, the operation was a success but she was recklessly discharged with no care plan back to the Residential Home. As a result she was back in Hospital within 20 hours. She also contracted pneumonia while in Hospital. I raised a formal complaint and a DST was arranged, I did my research but was not sufficiently aware of the different elements in the review, in retrospect the DST did not go to the detailed level which was required to provide an accurate assessment of the challenges my Mum faces and the support required.

In frustration I reached out to Compass CHC, I had the initial chat and to be honest I was sceptical about what I was been told: that my Mums condition was highly likely to meet the criteria for Continuing Health Care.

My scepticism was based on the fact such companies can just agree with you that it is wrong and then don’t deliver. I also would add that this was my last chance to sort this and was at a level of desperation, getting the right support for my Mum and facing fees of nearly £200k per annum.

Compass CHC were initially engaged to appeal the decision on funding, however before this could be progressed another DST was scheduled and I paid extra for an Advocate to attended. The Advocate rang me prior to the meeting in preparation and we both attended the DST together. In short he was spot!. Well researched with an eye for detail , very business-like and not adversarial, just focused on the best outcome for his client.

The outcome was Fully Funded care for my Mum, but more importantly it has changed the delivery of care my Mum is now receiving from the attention and focus the case brought.

As my Mums primary carer and only child, I know exactly her thoughts on what outcomes she would have wanted.

Compass CHC delivered! Thank you.

Mom was first diagnosed with mixed dementia in 2013 and she subsequently spent from 2015 to 2018 in residential care. She was then transferred to a nursing home following a fall and a lengthy hospital stay. For the past 3 years she has required 24 hour nursing care as her health has deteriorated. We felt sure Mom should now be entitled to NHS CHC funding and made enquiries to Compass CHC in March 2021 after reading many good reviews.

After a few telephone enquiries my sister and I then had a conference call with Tania from Compass CHC to discuss Moms needs. This call lasted about an hour and we went through the Decision Support Tool (DST) in detail. This was a free consultation and very professional. Following this process we were told we may well have a strong case for NHS Continuing Health Care funding. Based on this telephone meeting we then went ahead and engaged Compass to act on our behalf.

Although we aimed to be present at the DST meeting (held on 28 April 2021) we also paid for an advocate from Compass to act on our behalf as we felt we would be out of our depth. What a good decision this was!

Our advocate Molly’s experience was invaluable and she produced an extremely comprehensive 29 page report detailing all of Moms health needs. We received this report only 2 days after the DST meeting. We were very impressed!

Just 3 weeks after the DST meeting we received confirmation on 20th May 2021 from the NHS that our claim for funding had been successful.

Yes, it seems like quite a lot of money to pay out but it has definitely been money well spent!

I cannot recommend Compass CHC highly enough.

My Mother was diagnosed with Dementia in 2017 and this resulted in her being placed in a nursing home. She was refused the funding that she was entitled to although she met the set criteria as outlined by the NHS.

Myself and my wife have worked with Compass for the last 3 years in order to get justice. They have worked tirelessly and in such a professional manner throughout. They were exceptional and by having them on our side to help analyse and prepare our case we were able to secure an overwhelmingly positive outcome and more importantly the justice that we were seeking.

We were told many times during the 3 years that our attempts to secure the funding would be in vein. However, Compass kept us motivated and positive, reassuring us that we had a strong case.

I made contact with Compass after reading about CHC funding and wondering if my Mum, who has dementia and is in a residential care home, might qualify for it. Callum advised me she has a good case. I was initially very sceptical. How to work out work out if I could really trust this company? It seemed a lot of money to spend upfront before I really knew how strong the case was .

My scepticism was totally misplaced, my initial fears couldn’t have been more unfounded. Compass were great throughout – open, professional, calm and supportive when I was mega-stressed. They always got back to me, always listened well, always kept me informed. Progress was a bit slow initially for us because Mum’s care home took time to provide the right notes which ultimately provided the evidence needed.

Compass advocated for Mum on both checklist and CHC full assessment. I was extremely glad to have their calm support throughout. the process (which I found a bit of an emotional roller coaster). I was especially thankful for the reassurance provided to me after a telephone encounter with a hostile social work manager who told me Mum didn’t meet the criteria for CHC. Compass was successful in getting CHC funding for Mum. I could not have done this on my own and would 100% have been put off going to assessment by the comments of Social Services.

I highly recommend Compass and will be asking them to advocate again for mum when her CHC funding comes up for review.

Thank you Compass, your work was worth every penny.

My Mum was in a care home with serious stroke damage, dementia and other serious medical problems. She was in constant danger of falling if left alone as she kept on forgetting that she could not walk. She needed a lot of care and almost constant supervision. Despite this her assessment for funding for continuing healthcare was unsuccessful. We contacted Compass for help in appealing the assessment.

They did a long telephone interview to discuss the case and do an initial assessment of the likelihood of success before paying any fees so that we could decide if we wanted to go ahead or not.

The process took a long time because of delays by the NHS commissioning trusts and the transfer of contracts to different trusts twice. It dragged on beyond mum’s death. Compass were very good and produced a brilliant appeal which was very thorough; we could not have done this ourselves. The advocate was very friendly and competent.

Once the appeal was successful all we needed to do was claim the refund and we received the full care fees for the period between the assessment and mum’s death. This was straight forward, but did take a little time.

The fees were money very well spent.

I would thoroughly recommend Compass to anyone in a similar position and have already recommended them to friends.

Excellent. Contacted this company but was very unsure to start with, Adam phoned me back and I was asked a lot of questions regarding the health care we required for mum and was told we had a very good case to win. I was told about their fee system and said a advocate would be great benefit.

All work was done very swiftly and always responded to emails and kept updated.

Mums health went down hill and the nhs started to review the case and we didn’t have to use the advocate service. Mum unfortunately passed away and the fee for the advocate we paid was refunded straight away.

We didn’t get the full benefits of this company but it made us feel that it was definitely the right choice to have them working for us. I felt a lot better after engaging them to work on my behalf.

I would recommend them without any doubts.

I contacted Compass in July 2020 when it became apparent that respite care for my 64 year old sister with severe dementia, would need to become permanent.

From the very beginning they treated the case with professionalism, care and compassion. They discussed with me in depth over the telephone what my sister’s needs were and then followed it up in writing for me to clarify certain areas. Then and only then they told me that they thought we had a good basis to go forward with the claim and asked if I wanted information about how it all worked and their terms and conditions. They gave me all the information over the telephone and then followed it up with an email. They were totally upfront about the fees and I talked this over with others and we decided it was a no lose situation as it only amounted to the cost of being self funding a couple of months. If the case was successful we would save thousands of my sister’s money if we were unsuccessful the Local authority would take the money anyway.

We decided to go ahead with the claim using Compass. Thank goodness. They certainly knew what they were doing and kept me informed throughout and answered any queries I had. There is so much to do and so much chasing up when things weren’t returned. I still gave some input which was mostly to correct wrong information that they had been given. By December 2020 most of the information had been received and it was time to have the Multi Disciplinary Team meeting. The advocate from Compass rang me before the meeting to go through everything so that I felt confident to be part of the online team meeting. Throughout the whole meeting he was professional and supportive and was prepared to state the reasons for giving different ratings for my sister’s needs to what other members of the team gave.

The outcome was successful and my sister was found to be eligible for CHC.

Compass were my rock. I knew that I could have done this myself as I have done probates and Lasting power of attorney and I am a retired RGN, but I was 75 and suffering from carer burnout after being the main round the clock carer for my sister for three years. I do not hesitate in recommending Compass 100%. They earned and deserve every penny it cost.

Thank you compass.

I would highly recommend Compass CHC, they are very professional and extremely helpful.

I contacted them to try to get funding for my Mum who had been in a Care Home for 5 years, she was in a wheelchair unable to help or look after herself and had been partially funded by Social Services until my Dad died.

Compass took care of all the very lengthy paperwork and red tape and an advocate from Compass was present for the on-line meeting with the Health Care Trust.

Through Compass I did win my case and funding was agreed, if you are in a similar situation speak to Compass and they will advise you.

Late in 2014 my wife was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. I cared for her at home until February 2018 when she had deteriorated so much that I could no longer cope at home and she moved into a nursing home, initially on respite, but after a couple of months it soon became apparent that it would become her permanent home.

In April 2018 she was assessed for CHC and the local clinical commissioners decided that a full assessment should take place. That was the beginning of 3 years fighting bureaucracy. I soon realised it was necessary to involve experts in CHC and I appointed Compass who have guided me through the process and along with a lot of hard work on my own account we have reached a successful conclusion after taking the matter to Local and NHS England appeals.

Costs are significant but provided you are confident in your entitlement and resolute, you can also be successful with the help of Compass.

We approached Compass CHC when it became apparent my mother had little chance of securing CHC funding from the CCG despite her suffering from severe dementia and an abdominal cancerous mass.

From first contact, Compass staff were very understanding and supportive, possessing in depth knowledge and experience in dealing with this complex and daunting process. All staff were exceptionally professional and empathetic at all times.

Thanks to Compass retrospective funding was granted at the appeal stage. I have no doubt whatsoever without the involvement of Compass we would not have been successful.

I would highly recommend Compass to anyone seeking Continuing Healthcare funding. I cannot thank them enough.

Compass Continuing Healthcare represented my late father following the retraction of his CHC funding after his stroke. My first impression was that of a very professional organisation. As my fathers LPA I gave instruction for CCH to represent his case through to appeal. I was delighted to that today the outcome was that the retraction was found to be unsafe.

Irrespective of the outcome it was a matter of point of principle that my fathers funding in my view should have been retained.

I would strongly recommend CCH to anyone who feels that funding has been withdrawn without good reason. They have a fixed fee option which ensures that you are aware of the costs before embarking on the process of unknown length and complexity.

I was simply astonished by the depth of the case produced by CCH and the professionalism of every member of the team. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.

I highly recommend Compass CHC. Without their help I am sure I would have continued unsuccessfully with trying to secure funding for my relative, for who it was clear that they had a primary healthcare need.

They have the expertise, knowledge and experience that anyone in my situation would need to get the evidence needed to prove the case to the CCG.

They succeeded in helping my family to secure the funding for my relative that I feel he was entitled to all along.

Many thanks to Compass CHC who were brilliant throughout the process.

It’s been a very worrying, stressful and frustrating year with the added stress and difficulties caused by the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Compass team and advocate were friendly, supportive and very professional.

There is a lot of preparation, gathering information to prepare a supporting case. The advocate was there to advise and help navigate the NHS national framework and DST assessment meetings and she was brilliant at articulating our case, which helped enormously to relieve the pressure.

Its a complicated process to secure a positive result for eligibility for NHS continuing health care, in our case it took a year and two assessments.

I highly recommend anyone who has a relative that you think may be entitled to NHS continuing health care and is facing this daunting process, to talk to Compass.

Following my fathers rapid decline in due to dementia and a number of other health related issues, I began to investigate the potential for NHS CHC funding as it was clear that he would need full time care in the not too distant future.

Having researched extensively the process to secure funding, and reading the numerous horror stories regarding funding refusal, appeals and extensive time delays I decided I needed assistance in perusing my fathers claim. Having searched the internet for companies able to support me, and after reading reviews on each I decided to contact Compass. My initial discussions with them were informative and it was felt that my fathers declining condition warrantied a claim for full funding. I therefore employed Compass to take on my fathers case.

They were extremely thorough in assembling all my fathers health records and compiled a comprehensive defence. I also decided to secure Compass’s advocate service to attend the Continuing Healthcare DST assessment in my behalf, which I am pleased to report was successful, giving me peace of mind that my father would be able to benefit from the care he deserved and needed.

Without the services of Compass, I believe I would have struggled to secure the funding and I am glad I let them fight the case in my behalf.

I can not recommend their services highly enough.

I contacted Compass CHC to discuss whether I had a case for a retrospective review of my late fathers care home fees. I received a call from them where they fully and competently explained the process and the cost and I forwarded them the DST’s. They called me back to confirm that they thought we had a strong case and I agreed to go ahead with a claim.

Throughout the process Compass CHC dealt with me empathetically, professionally and efficiently. They were extremely knowledgeable of the process, kept me fully informed and up to date throughout and settled my case favourably within 3 years. Given that I had tried for over a year previously to begin the process with the NECSU, only to be continuously stalled by them with a variety of weak excuses as to why we couldn’t have a retrospective review, I believe that the fee paid to Compass CHC was money well spent.

The time and effort alone that I would have had to have spent engaging with the NECSU with limited knowledge and experience would have been exhausting and CHC took all of the stress of dealing with that away from me.

I cannot thank them enough and would recommend them to anybody in my situation.

I Contacted Compass CHC in Oct 2019 and they went through everything with me over the phone i sent them my late fathers DST reports and a few days later i told me i had a good case against the CHC i paid their fee and after i Zoom meeting with the CHC 11th dec 2020 they agreed that they were wrong and on the 1/2/2021 i have been awarded all my late fathers Care Home money which was a lot of money i cannot thank Compass CHC enough i would highly recommend their services as without them i would have never got my Late Fathers money back once again thankyou Compass CHC from Gary in west yorkshire.

We contacted Compass CHC to help secure funding for our mum who has Alzheimer’s.

Compass were brilliant from start to finish, they were always honest with us and set realistic expectations. They created an overwhelming case for CHC and we also paid to have someone present at the decision meeting, this is well worth the extra fee and I feel it is what secured the CHC funding for us as our representative questioned every decision and produced evidence of grades that should be applied.

I cant recommend them enough, they have saved us selling the family home and also the process has fully defined the level of care our mum needs.

One piece of extra advice I can offer is to keep Compass informed by email of everything that happens regarding your loved ones care or issues they are facing during the process, this adds to the evidence file.

Compass was a great help to us with our case for my dads funding. They are extremely thorough with their investigations and the review work they carry out is incredible, more than we could ever of done ourselves. It does take time so you need to be patient and be assured they are working hard to build your case. The detail in their report and the advocacy service, was, I believe the reason we were successful in receiving the funding and also went on to be successful in going for a retrospective claim.

It isn’t cheap but compare to other competitors and the cost of my dads care fees, we took the view that it was well worth getting expert help and support for what we believed to be the right thing.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Compass they are a genuine, reputable company that are there to help you through the process which can feel very daunting.

Give them a call, it costs you nothing and they will give you their genuine expert advice on your personal circumstances

Our application for CHC funding for our late father was rejected due to several of the key modes being downgraded, which is standard practice!!

Compass CHC was recommended by a close friend and with Compass’s help and guidance we were able to successfully appeal against the original decision. Our only regret was not getting Compass CHC involved at the beginning of the application process.

Our father sadly passed away during the appeals process due to Covid. He would have been tickled pink that we won our case.

Our advocate during the final appeal meeting was thorough, experienced, on top of her game and very professional. She was a star!

Without Compass CHC’s expertise in the field of continuing healthcare, we probably would not have succeeded in obtaining the funding.

Without reservation I fully recommend Compass CHC. They reduced the stress for the family at a very difficult time, having lost both parents in the space of a few months and with a world ravaged by Covid 19.

Thank you Compass CHC for all your help and kind support!

A very big thank you to the professionalism and care that all the staff showed at Compass in obtaining CHC for my late Aunt.

Its a long slow process , I first instructed Compass to act for me on December 29th 2016. Patience and determination are required, but if you believe you have the right to claim, keep calm and carry on. I could not have achieved this result without the skill and advice from Compass.

My sister & I decided to use Compass CHC for our mums CHC funding journey. We found them to be very responsive, proactive & professional at each stage of the journey. They also had the experience & expertise we lacked.

Without having Compass by our side leading up to & during the DST & MDT, we might not have got the CHC funding our mum rightly deserved. It’s an extremely complicated, fraught process to do alone. Compass did a great job!

The process of applying for continuing health care is arduous and distressing even to those of us who have worked in the health care system. The necessary supporting information can be hard to access and also hard to filter into meaningful supporting evidence. The assistance of Compass was invaluable in this. Also the advocates who supported me at the initial assessment meeting and then at the MDT meeting gave me great support. They were able to challenge the decisions as they were being discussed because of their in depth knowledge of the requirements for funding to be awarded.

At the start of the process I had been advised by both my GP and the manager of my husband’s care home that as the diagnosis was dementia we would not be successful. Thanks to Compass we were awarded full continuing care funding. I would urge anyone who is undecided, to apply and challenge what can seem a very unfair and arbitary health care system.

I’m very grateful to Compass for all their help with my father’s funding application. I have to admit that I had serious concerns at first, because the disruption caused by the pandemic meant that all the information they needed from the care home and the GP was really slow to arrive. I very much doubted that Compass would be able to turn it round and complete their report in the short amount of time that was left after the information from my father’s records had finally been delivered to them. They proved me wrong.

The Continuing Healthcare funding process is complex and messy, and I had struggled to really get to grips with it on my own. Once I had Compass’ report to hand, however, everything began to drop into place and I felt perfectly able to present my father’s case clearly, and with all the necessary supporting evidence, when the meeting took place with the NHS assessors. The level of detail was such that I was able to successfully challenge any errors in the NHS’s own records. To give one example, the assessor had recorded seven incidents of aggressive behaviour by my father during the previous six months, but the report enabled me to point out that there were actually 28 incidents. That particular section was one of the key areas in the process, and it was most important that all the detail was brought out.

Our application has been successful, and it’s down to Compass. I am very happy to recommend them.

I would highly recommend the services of Compass

We would like to thank the team at Compass for their very professional help in gaining CHC funding for our mother.

Gaining funding is not simple, guidelines need to be both met and proven at both the Checklist and DST stage, the latter stage following a rigorous procedure.

The CHC consultant guided us through the process, first determing whether Mother had a case for funding (if compass believes one does not exist, they will refuse to take on the case,) created the report for the DST review and attended the review as a consultant, helping us to argue our case succesfully.

Throughout the process the Compass team was friendly, responsive and knowledgeable.

Having a team behind you, which understands the complexities and requirements of the process, helps all the parties involved to reach the correct decision on fundind quickly.

Can you pass on our thanks to all those who worked on Sarahs case and represented her at the various hearings.

I now recommend you to friends and colleagues who are in a similar situation

“We have been on a long journey from initial complaint all the way through to national panel. Despite obvious flaws in the assessment process the local CCG steadfastly refused continuing nursing care.

Without the support of Compass we would have probably given up early in the appeals process. Compass were very professional and kept us well briefed throughout and given the level of their expertise in these matters we feel their fees were not unreasonable.

We thank and commend Compass for their support which has led to the refund of almost two years of substantial care fees.”

“I took a leap of faith and trusted in Compass CHC and it REALLY paid off. They delivered a Miracle.

It was a tough journey with several declines down the long road but the customer service and friendly assistance of the advocates was amazing. They came from the other end of the country to help us and I completely without reservation recommend their services. This could be the most worth while investment of a lifetime.”

“Simply put, we could NEVER have achieved the rightful recovery of the care home fees without the knowledge, experience, tenacity and professionalism of CompassCHC. If you believe you have a good case we would wholeheartedly recommend Compass to act on your behalf.”

“Professional service providing meticulously prepared evidence that supports the claim, well presented and argued at the hearings.

They will honestly advise how strong your case is and help you judge whether to pursue the matter Not cheap – we spent £4200 on three hearings but finally won.

The advocates are relatively young and new to law but, contrary to other comments on here, they do know what they are doing.

Yes, you could do it yourself but they have the skills, the knowledge and the experience to fight your corner. Remember, the NHS will do everything it can to avoid the claim so relying on them is not wise.”
